I went to Esalen to study Qigong. Esalen, dramatically posed on cliffs above the Pacific, offers a subject for painting in every direction. Why I painted the bathroom and the shower of Esalen I have no idea. I was in love with the whimsical bathroom graffiti and the strange shower with a wonderful view of the sea. I also drew the inside of the meditation yurt – twice. These places meant “comfort” to me. They were personal. Anyone can paint the sea, it is so obvious. I guess I need to be inside, quietly working on the koans of my life.
